From our school newsletter you will be aware that we believe in caring not just for our school but also for our community. That is why we are encouraging all pupils, parents and staff to get involved with the "Big Spring Clean" campaign in Northern Ireland.
Our P7 class have led the way in investigating litter in the local area and have written to the council to outline their concerns. We now encourage all involved in the Seaview school community to pledge to improve our local environment.
We all want to see positive changes to where we live. With your help, this campaign will grow the number of people willing to play a part. We’d all like cleaner streets, less dog fouling and graffiti, more green space and better use of unused and derelict buildings

Don't forget to ask all your friends and family to save their used stamps for charity. Mrs Taylor will have a box in the office for all contributions. This year we are donating then to a cancer charity. You can read more about the charity here: http://www.againstbreastcancer.org.uk/get-involved/fundraising/recycling/989/used-stamp-recycling/ A large number of pupils took part in the Seaview Big Pedal organised by Mrs Delvin last week in school. Many pupils opted to bike or scoot to school.
As a school, we see many positive benefits of increasing the number of children cycling, walking and scooting to and from school. Active school travel improves health through physical activity, promotes independence, improves safety awareness, and is good for the environment. As more children walk or cycle to school, there will also be fewer cars around the school gates making our school a safer place for everyone. We are waiting to see how the school got on when all the points have been allocated by Sustrans but regardless we thoroughly enjoyed participating. Further info on Sustrans in Seaview can be found here http://www.seaviewps.org.uk/home/sustrans or on Sustrans http://www.sustrans.org.uk/our-services/who-we-work/teachers/sustrans-big-shift This link from The Royal Horicultural Society will give you a top ten things to do in your Garden for Spring. https://www.rhs.org.uk/advice/in-month/march
Mrs Latham is a huge fan of gardening so don't forget to send in pictures or plants that you have grown at home. We have created this blog to show our school community all the wonderful things we do in Seaview Primary School to promote "Green Living" and to encourage all our pupils to get involved in looking after the school garden. We will be posting pictures of pupils in our gardening club and pictures that we have taken. We will also post tips for pupils, parents and staff to try out at home. Happy Gardening!! |
